Moses Kuria Breaks Silence on Protest Casualties, Highlights Nyeri County's Heavy Loss
Presidential advisor Moses Kuria has publicly mourned the lives lost during recent nationwide protests, with a special focus on the high number of casualties reported in Nyeri County.
In a somber social media post, Kuria expressed grief over the deaths, stating, “My heart bleeds for my beloved people of Nyeri. Of the 11 deaths reported in the country, 4 of them, a whopping 35% were in Nyeri County. God save our nation.”
His remarks follow days of anti-government demonstrations that have swept across the country, leaving multiple people dead and many others injured. While the government has yet to release a comprehensive report on the circumstances surrounding the fatalities, human rights groups and community leaders have criticized the police response, citing excessive force.
Kuria, who comes from the Mt. Kenya region, joins other senior government figures acknowledging the severity of the crisis. His statement has drawn mixed reactions—some residents commended his empathy, while others called out the government’s failure to protect protestors.
As the country awaits official investigations, pressure is mounting on authorities to ensure accountability. Organizations such as the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights have demanded immediate action to curb further violence and rebuild public trust.
In Nyeri, the atmosphere remains heavy with grief as families grapple with the devastating loss of loved ones.
