Who is Ryan Ogam? The New Star of Harambee Stars

Kenya has a new name on the lips of football fans — Ryan Wesley Ogam. At just 20 years old, the Tusker FC striker has risen from relative obscurity to become the face of Harambee Stars’ CHAN 2024 campaign.

From Midfield to Goal Machine

Born in Nairobi on December 21, 2004, Ogam began his journey in the dusty pitches of local youth clubs like Galaxy FC, Sunrise FC, and UEFA Despanol. His early promise saw him venture briefly into the UAE with Elite Falcons FC, but it was his return home in 2024 that truly changed his story.

Joining Tusker FC, Ogam was converted from a defensive midfielder into a forward — and the gamble paid off. He terrorized defenders in the FKF Premier League, scoring 15 goals in just 17 matches. Overnight, he became one of the hottest young strikers in the country.

Making His Mark for Kenya

His call-up to the national team came early in 2025 at the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar. Few knew then how quickly he would become central to Harambee Stars’ success.

At CHAN 2024, Ogam has been electric:

  • Against Morocco, he scored the winner in the 42nd minute — handing Kenya a famous 1-0 win.
  • Days later, he struck again versus Zambia, sealing the victory that saw Kenya finish Group A unbeaten.

For a debutant, his composure in front of goal has been nothing short of remarkable.

The Next Michael Olunga?

Head coach Benni McCarthy has compared Ogam’s sharpness to that of Kenyan legend Michael Olunga. The coach praises his movement, power, and instinct but has also challenged him to improve his weaker foot to become even deadlier.

Fans, however, are already convinced. To many, Ogam is not just a player for today — he is the future of Kenya’s attack.

What Lies Ahead?

With his confidence growing and goals flowing, Ogam has set himself an ambitious target of at least five goals in CHAN. If he continues at this pace, Tusker FC may struggle to hold onto him for long as scouts from abroad are already watching.

👉 In Ryan Ogam, Kenya has found more than just a striker. They’ve discovered a symbol of hope — a young man proving that with belief, hard work, and opportunity, the Harambee Stars can dream bigger than ever before.
