Gachagua accuses Ruto of neglecting Kalenjins, taking all development to Nyanza

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto, accusing the Head of State of sidelining Kalenjin regions in key government development projects.

Speaking during an interview with Kalenjin journalists, Gachagua did not hold back. He questioned why areas considered strongholds of the President were not receiving what he described as fair attention.

“Si sawa kuona maeneo yetu yakibaki nyuma ilhali tulisimama kidete kuunga mkono serikali hii. Wananchi wa Kalenjin wanastahili maendeleo kama maeneo mengine.”

Gachagua suggested that development focus appears to be shifting toward other regions as political alignments change ahead of the 2027 General Election. According to him, leadership should not abandon its traditional support base.

“Uongozi ni wa wote, sio wa kuchagua maeneo fulani kwa sababu ya siasa za wakati huu.”

Now leading the Democracy for Citizens Party, Gachagua expressed disappointment in local leaders from the Rift Valley, saying they have remained silent instead of defending their constituents.

“Wabunge na maseneta wetu wako wapi? Kwa nini hawasemi wakati watu wao wanahitaji sauti?”

However, he was quick to clarify that his disagreement is with the President’s leadership decisions and not with the Kalenjin community itself.

“Mimi sina tatizo na watu wa Kalenjin. Tatizo langu ni mfumo wa uongozi unaosahau baadhi ya wananchi wake.”

Gachagua also revealed that he plans to tour various parts of the Rift Valley to engage directly with residents as political activities begin to gain momentum ahead of 2027.

His remarks signal deepening political tensions and could reshape alliances in the coming months as leaders position themselves for the next electoral cycle
