Who Was Pastor Julius Ndumia?

A postmortem later revealed that the pastor died from asphyxiation and severe head injuries caused by a blunt object. Investigators stated that he had been tied before the fatal attack. 

The murder shocked residents, church members, and leaders across Kenya, leading to calls for justice and improved security in the area.

Why Was Pastor Julius Ndumia Killed?

The exact reason behind the killing of Pastor Julius Ndumia has not been officially confirmed by investigators. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that investigations into the shocking murder were still ongoing following the attack at PCEA Tabuga Parish in Lanet, Nakuru County.

Meanwhile, Nakuru-based pathologist Titus Ndulungu revealed that Pastor Julius Ndumia sustained injuries after being struck with a blunt object at the back of his head. The postmortem examination further showed that he died from asphyxia caused by severe head and neck injuries, which affected his ability to breathe.

Early reports suggested that the attackers could have been targeting valuables or money at the church residence. Investigators also explored the possibility that individuals known to the pastor may have been involved in the incident. During the attack, the church watchman was reportedly injured, indicating that there may have been a violent struggle before the pastor was killed.

Authorities later arrested suspects linked to the case as investigations continued, but by then, police had not publicly revealed a final motive for the murder.

The tragic death left church members, residents, and religious leaders in shock, with many demanding justice for the respected PCEA minister.

Family and Public Reaction

Following his death, family members described him as:

  • A caring family man and community leader

PCEA church officials, including Secretary General Rev. Robert Waihenya, publicly mourned him and called for thorough investigations into the killing. 

Local residents and political leaders also demanded justice, with many expressing concern over rising insecurity in Lanet and surrounding areas. 

Investigations

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later confirmed that investigations were ongoing, and by May 2026, two suspects linked to the murder had reportedly been arrested. Authorities stated that forensic and intelligence-led investigations were continuing.
